The Crucial Role of Parenting: Reflections on the Surgeon General's Advisory
At the end of August 2024, the U.S. Surgeon General issued a powerful advisory on parents' mental health, highlighting an often-overlooked truth: parenting is foundational to the well-being of our entire society. In his opinion piece, the Surgeon General emphasized, "it begins with fundamentally shifting how we value parenting, recognizing that the work of raising a child is crucial to the health and well-being of all society."
Truer words have never been spoken!
Parenting, particularly during the early years of a child's life, is an unpaid, yet profoundly important, role. Parents are the architects of the next generation, shaping emotional resilience, relational skills, and the overall health of future adults. Yet, despite its critical importance, parenting often goes undervalued and unsupported.
The Surgeon General's advisory sheds light on the growing mental health challenges parents face, including stress, burnout, and feelings of isolation. These challenges have only intensified in recent years due to societal pressures, lack of paid family leave, and limited access to affordable childcare.

Shifting the Narrative Around Parenting
Baby and Me is my attempt to fill the gap in the resources. It’s time to shift how we value parenting and create systems that prioritize the well-being of parents and caregivers.
When parents are supported—whether through access to mental health resources, workplace flexibility, or community networks—the benefits ripple out to children and society as a whole. A parent who feels mentally and emotionally healthy is better equipped to nurture, teach, and connect with their child, fostering a foundation of early relational health that sets the stage for lifelong well-being.
All caregivers deserve support, and the surgeon general's advisory is a national call to action. Let's answer!
