A safe, supportive space for professional reflection
Reflective Consultation
“The heart of reflective supervision is the creation of a safe space where professionals can explore their feelings and experiences, leading to more effective and empathetic care.” — Rebecca Shahmoon Shanok
Reflective Supervision Consultation (RS/C)
Reflective Supervision/Consultation (RS/C) is a relationship-based, reflective practice model used widely in early childhood and family-serving systems to support the people doing deeply relational work.

RS/C creates protected time and space to slow down and reflect on the emotional, relational, and contextual dimensions of practice. Rather than focusing on solutions or performance, the emphasis is on meaning-making, curiosity, and understanding how experiences — both personal and professional — shape the work with children and families.

This reflective approach recognizes that working in close relationship with young children and caregivers is complex and evocative, and that practitioners benefit from support that attends to the person doing the work, not just the work itself.
Why Reflective Consultation Matters
Prevents burnout and supports emotional stability in the workforce
Strengthens reflective capacity for thoughtful decision-making
Supports staff retention and reduces turnover
Supports the quality and continuity of relationship-based services
